Active Minds, Inc. is the nation’s only non-profit organization dedicated to utilizing the student voice to raise mental health awareness on the college campus. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the organization works with students, administrators, and mental health agencies to bring educational programming to college students nationwide.

Responsibilities of the Program Director position:
• Develop creative and effective turnkey programs that promote education and awareness about mental health issues, to be implemented by the organization's chapters across North America.
• Oversee the management of all aspects of existing programs, including National Days and traveling exhibits
• Work with Executive Director and other staff on various tasks associated with annual Mental Health on Campus Conference
• Work with Development Director to strategize on funding mechanisms and plans for new programs
• Daily responsibilities will include developing new programs to implement at the chapter level; administrative duties such as photocopying, overseeing mailings, answering phone calls, and fundraising correspondence
• Must be able to think creatively to effectively expand upon the Active Minds mission through program development and student volunteer inclusion
• Must be able to work well independently and as a integral member of the Active Minds team
• Work collaborately with Chapters Coordinators and Development and Executive Directors
• Draft and maintain correspondence related to program development, including to/from students, administrators, staff, members of the Board of Directors
• Some travel to conferences and colleges/universities for consultation is affiliated with the job (access to a car is preferred, though not required)
• Meet weekly with Executive Director and other staff
• Work with Executive Director and leadership to develop and implement fundraising strategies
• Other duties as assigned

 

Additional Qualifications
Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience Required:
At least two years experience in program development, working with college populations, and/or mental health advocacy
activities strongly preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Strong organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills necessary
• Must be able to prioritize, be dependable and manage a heavy workload
• Needs to be flexible, respectful, patient and an enthusiastic team player
• Should be able to adapt easily to constantly changing situations, be creative and able to produce prompt and effective results
• Must be able to relate to college students as well as represent the organization to any and all high-level administrators, including but not limited to President, Provost, and Dean of Students
• Should be able to work independently and proactively
• Must be a creative thinker who can move an idea from conception to realization in a very quick timeframe
• Must be comfortable representing the organization and speaking publicly on behalf of the organization in a professional manner
• Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and maintain confidentiality
• Flexible schedule; able to work weekends and evenings as needed for events
• Computer proficiency is required, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Explorer/Mozilla

Position reports to Executive Director.
